Introduced in the BC legislature in October 2025, Private Members' Bill M216 Professional Reliance Act has garnered considerable attention amongst PIBC members and other stakeholders. On November 10, 2025, PIBC staff and members of the Policy & Public Affairs Committee met with the sponsor of the bill, MLA George Anderson (Nanaimo-Lantzville) to learn more about the intention of the bill.
Given the potential consequences and implications should Bill M216 become law in the short term, PIBC communicated initial feedback and comments to MLA George Anderson, the Premier of British Columbia, and other officials on November 14, 2025. Click here to read this letter.
Please note: copies of PIBC’s correspondence were also shared with the following key stakeholders:
- Honourable Christine Boyle, Minister of Housing and Municipal Affairs
- Honourable Jessie Sunner, Minister of Post-Secondary Education and Future Skills
- Kate Haines, Superintendent of the Office of Professional Governance and Office for International Credential Recognition
- MLA John Rustad, Leader of the Conservative Party of British Columbia
- MLA Jeremy Valeriote, BC Green Party MLA Anderson
PIBC will continue to monitor the progress of Bill M216 in the legislature, contribute to further discussion, and provide updates to members going forward. For related inquiries, please contact Raymond Kan RPP, MCIP (PIBC's Director of Policy and Research).
