SENIOR PLANNER – POLICY

Our Development Services Department is seeking a dynamic individual to join our multi-disciplinary team.  As a senior-level professional Planner, you are engaged in a variety of planning functions where you will apply your sound knowledge of planning theory and community development land use concepts in both the development and policy planning disciplines.

You will be responsible to research, analyze, prepare, and conduct planning studies and research projects, draft policy proposals and bylaw amendments, prepare neighbourhood and land use concept plans, carry out professional planning assignments involving the application of specialized knowledge in the analysis of planning policy and legislation, design and conduct public involvement programs and represent the planning department at public meetings, develop projections and plans for industrial, commercial, residential and other areas of land use, liaise with municipal and other government agencies, and establish and maintain databases for the department, including population, lot inventory, housing needs, development project status and land use information. As required, you will perform the duties of the Senior Planner – Land Use. In addition, you will also provide professional advice and assistance to other departments, developers, architects, government agencies and the public in a manner that Is tactful, clear, concise and appropriate, provide training for new staff members, and provide information related to the performance assessment of new staff.

In addition to a bachelor’s degree in geography, community planning, or related field supplemented by urban/community planning courses and a minimum of 6 years’ experience in municipal planning, the ideal candidate will have considerable knowledge and understanding of provincial legislation and a comprehensive understanding of municipal bylaws and policies relating to land use, the ability to research, prepare reports and recommendations on a variety of land use planning issues, and the ability to make presentations at committee, council and public information meetings and respond accurately and appropriately to questions. You will also have membership or be eligible for membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners.

The 2020 rate for this full-time CUPE position is $51.31 plus an excellent benefit package upon completion of probation. We also offer a 9-day fortnight schedule (extended hours for nine days and one day off every two weeks).
