Webinar Overview
As a follow up to PIBC’s webinar “Rethinking Planning & Social Justice” (2020), we are pleased to continue the conversation on this important topic.  This webinar explores practical ways planners can consider equity in their work to create more inclusive and livable communities:

· Learn how to use evidence more effectively to formulate key planning decisions impacting social justice. Laura Tate, author of Beyond Rationality: Impactful Planning and Policy in a Post-truth Era (Routledge, New York, 2021) provides planners with proven approaches for better responding to debates over truth.

· Understand, through practical examples, how universal design and usable accessibility is better for everyone. Thea Kurdi, President of DesignABLE Environments Inc. uses real examples to illustrate how barrier-free and universal design practices promote community social justice.

· Explore practical tools that can help planners evaluate land use regulations to support equitable outcomes. Livia Balone, Director of Edmonton's Zoning Bylaw Renewal initiative offers a toolkit to help planners advance changes to local government regulatory environments to align with policy, improve service delivery and advance social justice.

· Learn practical guidance on how to effectively engage people with lived and living experience of substance use in an inclusive and compassionate way. Representatives from Episodic Overdose Prevention Sites (e-OPS) Healthy Built Environments / British Columbia Centre for Disease Control provide approaches and advice to planners based on scientific evidence and feedback from a series of recent workshops.
