As part of PIBC's 60th Anniversary celebrations, we are delighted to invite you to participate in the 2019 Northern Planners Community of Practice Professional Development Event! 

This event will inlude an interactive day of discussions and peer to peer learning focused on facilitation skills, electic vehicle infrastructure, land use law and the role of planners in advancing reconciliation and First Nations planning. In the evening the UNBC Student Planners Association will be hosting an exciting event that will include food, drinks, and an optional escape room team challenge (Note: This event is free for UNBC Students).

All registrations are final. No refunds or cancellations are permitted; however, in the event that a registrant is not able to attend, substitution of a different attendee may be accepted if arranged in advance. Any registrant requiring substitution should contact PIBC. Deadline for registration is Monday, March 11th, 2019.

Our Speakers:

Lui Carvello MCIP, RPP considers law a speciality within his planning career, that first begin with an interest in high school, then a BES (Honours Urban and Regional Planning) from Waterloo and an MES (Consensus Building and Dispute Resolution in Planning) from York while also going to Osgoode Hall Law School. He has worked in planning departments in BC, Ontario and England, and with consultants, and now focus on providing legal practical advice and creative options in planning, development and environmental matters, primarily for local governments. Education and commitment are fundamental, and Lui has sought to contribute to the profession through volunteer efforts, speaking engagements, articles and sponsorships. 

Patricia (Trish) Dehnel MCIP, RPP is a Community Energy Planner with Community Energy Association based in Nelson BC. Recent Kootenay based projects include Senior Energy Specialist for Regional District of Central Kootenay and West Kootenay liaison for Accelerate Kootenays, an innovative and regional approach to build a robust network of electric vehicle charging stations. Trish has worked for Local Government including Village of Slocan interim CAO/Planning Manager and City of Nelson City Planner. Patricia Dehnel currently serves on the Planning Institute of BC’s Board of Directors 

Janice Keyes is the Senior Manager, Community Energy Engagement, at the Community Energy Association (CEA). She is a planning professional with more than 25 years of experience in creating effective stakeholder engagement and events. At CEA, Janice currently manages community engagement for several First Nations projects as well as the Charge North Electric Vehicle Network Study.

Lisa Krebs MCIP RPP is the Director of Lands & Stewardship for Takla Nation. Her work facilitates the building of governance structures to support decision making from the community and leadership in order to meet both the environmental stewardship and development goals of the Nation. Lisa is a Registered Professional Planner (RPP) and has worked in Indigenous Land Management for 20 years. Lisa practices Indigenous Planning as a political strategy aimed at improving the lives and environments of Indigenous peoples.

Hillary Morgan MCIP, RPP is a Registered Professional Planner living and working in Prince George. Hillary serves as the Chair for the Central-North Chapter and works with an inter-disciplinary team at the Ministry of Forests leading planning and engagement for species at risk recovery efforts. Hillary’s current work is focused on developing plans and strategies that support the recovery of caribou populations in northeastern B.C.

Angel Ransom MCIP RPP is a member (and former Band Councillor) of Nak’azdli Whut’en has a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Planning, specializing in First Nations Planning. She is also a Registered Professional Planner with the Planning Institute of BC and a full member of the Canadian Institute of Planners. Her most recent achievement includes obtaining Adjunct Professor Status with the School of Environmental Planning at the UNBC. Angel has a range of experience in land use planning, communication and facilitation; technical research, analysis and writing; natural resources project management; and coordinating various negotiations between First Nations, Government and Proponents.
