POSITION OVERVIEW:

The City of Maple Ridge is seeking a collaborative, customer-focused, and knowledgeable manager to provide direction and coordinate the work of the community planning section of the Planning Department.  The Manager of Community Planning is accountable for monitoring, amending and implementing the policies contained in the Official Community Plan and other related documents and bylaws. Reporting to the Director of Planning, this role also acts as a liaison between the Planning Department and external stakeholders involved in a development application review process. If you are passionate about designing and shaping the world around you through the lens of sustainability, problem solving and policy development, we’d love to hear from you.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Extensive knowledge of the principles, practices, methods and techniques used in managing various forms of land use planning projects.
  • Thorough knowledge of the policies, rules, by-laws, and regulations governing the work of the department.
  • Ability to administer and direct the Community Planning section operations, programs and projects with a corporate strategic focus and provide a high degree of leadership.
  • Strong leadership skills to guide subordinate staff towards successful outcomes and workplace objectives.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective liaison and working relationships with internal contacts, governmental and business officials and representatives and the public.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement and represent the section in meeting and dealing with Boards, Committees and Commissions on planning matters and projects.
  • Ability to prepare professional and technical planning and/or administrative reports and studies, and analyze and evaluate data for complex problem solutions.
  • A graduate degree from a recognized planning program or closely related field
  • Membership with the Canadian Institute of Planners.
