The City of Coquitlam is currently seeking a motivated and experience Development Technologist 2 to join a team of committed professionals in the Development Services division. The successful incumbent will review and process engineering servicing and related legal and financial aspects of development and building permit applications to ensure compliance with municipal engineering standards. This position will work closely with developers, consultants and other City staff to process these applications and assist with other project tasks if and when required.

Specifically, this position will:

  • Compile, review and complete engineering servicing requirements for subdivision, development permit, rezoning, OCP amendment and other related project tasks to ensure compliance with applicable by‑laws and requirements of the City pertinent to land development activities;
  • Exercise and provide specialized and technical advice and direction; interpret and explain City policies, proce­dures, regulations, by‑laws and other requirements to developers/consultants, other City staff and the general public;
  • Work with various Engineering asset managers to analyze existing water, storm and sanitary sewer systems to determine capacities and evaluate alternative servicing options and impact on existing Municipal services; and
  • Review correspondence and reports, and draft agreements spec­ifying facts, findings, conclusions and/or recommendations, where appropriate.

Our ideal candidate will possess at minimum a post-secondary diploma in Civil, Structural or Geological Engineering plus sound related experience (preferably in a municipal Planning environment) or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Certification or eligibility for certification as an Applied Science Technologist within the Province of British Columbia would be an asset.  Experience with computer design software would also be beneficial to the role.

The City offers a competitive salary of $40.29 to $47.57 per hour as well as an excellent benefits package. This position is based in Coquitlam with some flexible, remote work options available. The City has a vaccination policy that is currently suspended. However, should the policy be reinstated, it will be a requirement for all current and future employees. 

Applicants under consideration will be required to undergo a police security clearance evaluation and vulnerable sector check with no adverse reports, as well as submit a satisfactory driving record.
