We are looking for a strategic and forward-thinking Major Project Planner to join our Parks, Recreation, Culture and Facilities team. This position will play a key role in supporting the City’s highly collaborative and skilled development review process in implementing high quality urban design and creating great public places. This role is instrumental in facilitating development applications that promote sustainable levels of park and recreation amenities to service current and future residents.
The successful candidate will be called upon to undertake a wide variety of municipal planning work including managing complex development applications; implementing principles of good urban design, supporting transit oriented development, presenting to Council, researching and preparing written reports, providing professional and/or technical recommendations. This role may direct and oversee the work of technical, professional staff and external consultants. The Major Project Planner exercises considerable independent judgement in developing, completing and administering programs and projects. Political sensitivity and the ability to establish effective working relationships with other employees, consultants and the public are integral to the success of this position.
The ideal candidate will have 5-7 years of progressive professional experience in Community Planning, Landscape Architecture and/or Architecture supplemented by a graduate degree in a related field. Membership or eligibility for membership with the Planning Institute of B.C., British Columbia Society of Landscape Architecture, and/or the Architectural Institute of British Columbia is required in addition to a valid BC Driver’s License (with satisfactory driving record). An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

This exciting position offers a CUPE hourly wage of $53.97-63.89 (2022 rates), flexible remote work options, an excellent benefits package as well as an earned day off program. Applicants under consideration may be required to undergo a police security clearance evaluation (with no adverse reports). The City has a vaccination policy in effect with requirements for all current and future employees.
