The RDNO in partnership with the Fraser Basin Council would like to invite you to the  "Getting Climate Ready: Future Climate in the North Okanagan" workshop on March 12, 2019 in Vernon, British Columbia at the Prestige Hotel Vernon & Conference Centre.

Climate change is exposing communities in the North Okanagan to changes in weather patterns and more frequent extreme events. These changes are putting local and regional infrastructure at risk as well as impacting the health of area residents. The North Okanagan has witnessed recent flooding and wildfire events; changing climate hazards have created the need to integrate climate change adaptation into policy, planning, landscape design, and public works maintenance.

This full-day, free introductory workshop will focus on Climate Adaptation topics relevant to the Regional District of North Okanagan. Feedback collected from participants in the workshop will directly inform the climate adaptation component of the Regional District’s Regional Growth Strategy 5-Year Review. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Topics and presenters to date include:

What’s Climate got to do with it? | Trevor Murdock, Climate Scientist and Lead – Regional Climate Impacts, Pacific Climate Impacts Consortium

Creating Communities that are Resilient to Wildfire: Learning from Recent Events | Alan Westhaver, President, ForestWise Environmental Consulting Ltd.

In Too Deep: How we can Better Adapt to Floods | Tamsin Lyle, Principal, Ebbwater Consulting
