We are looking for a strategic, collaborative and results oriented Transportation Planning Manager to join a recently created division within our Planning Department; focused on long-range transportation planning and transportation policy.

 

Reporting to the Director of Planning, the Transportation Planning Manager will lead a team of professionals to assist in setting new directions on a wide variety of municipal, regional, and provincial transportation issues. These include: leading the development of new and revised plans for roadways, transit and active transportation; securing and preparing for significant investments in transit infrastructure in the City; advancing the City’s efforts to deliver great, multi-modal streets; providing technical support to analyze the impacts of developments; and delivering creative transportation demand management programs.

 

The Transportation Planning Manager will have a thorough understanding of how transportation services are planned and provided by all levels of government in the Lower Mainland. The Manager will lead, manage and monitor the section’s performance including operating and capital budgets and will draw upon knowledge and experience of transportation planning principles to produce memos, reports, and studies and present this information to internal and external stakeholders.

 

The ideal candidate will have a degree in a relevant discipline with significant related experience as well as progressively responsible leadership and management experience.  The ideal candidate will also have excellent communications, planning, project management and leadership attributes and will be able to work in an interdisciplinary, collaborative and creative manner to assist the City in setting and achieving transportation objectives.  

 

To be successful in this position, candidates must have the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with elected officials, stakeholders, and the general public; proven interpersonal and management skills including the ability to guide and direct a team of professionals and build a cohesive and collaborative work environment as well as manage change and conflict.  The ability to make quality, timely decisions, sometimes with incomplete information, based upon experience and sound judgment is also required. A valid Class 5 Driver’s license is required for this position.
