The District of Saanich is one of the four core municipalities within the Capital Regional District. The community is home to 114,000 citizens and is comprised of urban, suburban and rural areas, and 12 diverse neighborhoods. Saanich is known for its progressive initiatives in the areas of Environmental Protection, Climate Change, and Community Planning.
Due to retirement, Saanich is seeking an experienced Planner to join our Community Planning team. The successful candidate will be a Planner who is innovative and self-motivated, with a focus on customer service. Skill sets will include thorough knowledge of planning principles and legislation, as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills. The individual will be team focused, working with a diverse group of professionals to implement our Official Community Plan.
The successful candidate will be called upon to undertake a wide variety of municipal planning work including: managing community planning projects; designing and delivering public engagement processes, implementing principles of good urban design, writing planning reports and correspondence, and undertaking research and analysis.
Requirements include a Masters Degree in Planning (or a related Master’s Degree may be considered with appropriate experience), five years experience in the field of public planning, preferably municipal planning; membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners and a valid BC Class 5 Drivers Licence. Consideration may be given to candidates who hold an equivalent combination of education and experience.
This is a C.U.P.E. Local 2011 position with a wage of $41.66 per hour and an excellent benefits package. Please be advised that this position has been green-circled. As a result, the wage rate quoted is subject to a further increase. Any increases will be announced after completion of the 2018 municipal budget process.
