The Planning, Development and Real Estate department requires a Temporary Full-time Planner 2 (City Design and Planning) for approximately 1 year to join our team.
Reporting to the Manager, Planning (City Planning and Design), as an accomplished planning professional, you will apply specialized knowledge in a variety of areas related to long range planning, land use planning, urban design and environmental sustainability. You will take a leadership role supervising technical and professional subordinates in influencing and creating actionable policy in directing growth and working towards the City’s vision to be “The Healthiest Small City in the World”. You will use your skills in supporting and developing long range policy, technical land use support, sustainable neighbourhood planning and data collection and analysis. The work will include participating in the update and implementation of the Official Community Plan (OCP), Zoning Bylaw Update, and other city-building initiatives. You will liaise with various internal and external contacts, answer inquiries and provide information to other departments and the public. In addition, you may participate in public meetings and public engagements and provide various planning groups, committees, and Council with technical and professional expertise and guidance, as well as, prepare Council reports, presentations, and other materials. Performs related duties as required.
You will have a university degree in an appropriate discipline, together with a post-graduate degree in Community/Regional Planning, plus sound related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge and experience in the analytical and research techniques and methodology in municipal planning is required, along with membership or eligibility for membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners and the Planning Institute of British Columbia. Strong project management, problem solving, facilitation and communication skills are essential along with the capability to communicate complex concepts in simple terms. You will be required to attend evening Council, committee and public meetings.
For temporary full-time positions of eight (8) months or longer, a City employee who is successful on the posting will have the right to revert to their former position.
Salary:
$54.44 to 64.47 per hour
(Pay Grade 30 – January 2024 rates)
Hours of Work:
The City of North Vancouver currently works on a compressed work schedule of 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, with one scheduled day off (Monday or Friday) approximately each three-week scheduling cycle.
