The Community Planning team is recruiting for a regular full-time Planner 1. In this position you will work in some of the more urgent areas affecting our community. These include housing, the Official Community Plan update, employment, and social planning. You are a motivated, all-around planner, comfortable taking on new assignments, balancing multiple priorities and working to deadlines. The successful candidate will be exposed to the breadth of work we do. You may have the opportunity to work with committees and consultants. As a Community Planner 1, you will grow your career and help deliver on important Council priorities.
In this role you will:
- Bring a solid understanding of planning principles, processes and legislation.
- Develop, interpret and communicate planning policies.
- Support major initiatives such as the Official Community Plan update.
- Use and refine your writing and presentations skills, including at Council meetings as required.
- Maintain good relationships with internal and external clients.
- Expand your project management skills.
- Prepare funding applications or Requests for Proposals.
- Assist in the design and facilitation of community engagement processes.
- Review and coordinate development referrals to achieve the District’s policy objectives.
- Be part of a dedicated team and supported in your growth by the Department’s Senior Planner and Manager.
Qualifications
You have an undergraduate degree in an appropriate discipline, plus a postgraduate degree in Community or Regional Planning, supplemented by professional policy and development planning experience OR an equivalent combination of training and experience. Membership or eligibility for membership in either the Planning Institute of British Columbia or Canadian Institute of Planners is required as well as a valid BC Driver’s License.

Salary: The pay range for this unionized position is $50.13 - $59.23 per hour (2024 rates)
Hours of Work: 35 hours per week
