The City’s Planning & Development Department has an opportunity for a regular full-time Planner 1 to join our Transportation Planning Division working as an interdisciplinary team with North Shore and regional partners to implement the Council-approved Mobility Strategy.
Reporting to the Manager, Transportation Planning, you will support our team in delivering the City’s Mobility Strategy, including undertaking stakeholder and public engagement, policy development, internal/local/regional relationship-building, transportation analysis to enable decision-making, and writing for a range of technical and non-technical audiences. This work will occur in support of advancing the implementation of key near-term policies and actions including the implementation of TransLink’s Ten Year Priorities, zoning bylaw refresh, data analysis and management, and planning, evaluation, and prioritization of the mobility lane network.
You will design and conduct transportation planning studies and projects at the sub-region, city, neighbourhood and corridor level and support the development of transportation-related businesses cases. You will provide strategic planning and policy advice to the design of transportation infrastructure. You will act as a departmental liaison to various stakeholder groups and committees, prepare Council reports, and recommend policy proposals for Council consideration.
This is a position for a Professional Planner who has demonstrated experience in developing interdisciplinary, multimodal transportation planning work. You will be a dynamic, results-oriented professional with strong communication, relationship-building and organizational skills, as well as the ability to influence and inspire others within interdisciplinary teams. You will have a University degree in an appropriate discipline, together with a post-graduate degree in Planning and/or Engineering, relevant experience in transportation planning, or, an equivalent combination of training and experience. Membership or eligibility for membership in the Planning Institute of B.C. and the Canadian Institute of Planners as well as a valid BC Class 5 driver’s license is required. Attendance at some evening Council, committee and public meetings may also be required.
Shortlisted candidates may be required to complete standardized tests or exercises to demonstrate their applicable skills and knowledge.
Salary:
$44.78 to $52.91 per hour
(Pay Grade 28 – January 2021 rates)
Hours of Work:
The City of North Vancouver currently works on a compressed work schedule of 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, with one scheduled day off (Monday or Friday) approximately each three-week scheduling cycle.
