The Sustainability Division focuses on tackling climate change to help achieve our vision for a Sustainable Saanich, where a healthy natural environment is recognized as paramount for ensuring social well-being and economic vibrancy. We have an exciting opportunity available for a permanent, full-time Sustainability Project Manager, who will report to the Manager of Sustainability. This position will identify, design and lead key projects and programs that deliver on the Climate Plan vision, objectives and targets with a focus on corporate climate action that showcases a municipality “Leading by Example”.
A key objective of this position is to accelerate the District of Saanich’s transition to zero-carbon, 100% renewable operations and climate resiliency. As the Sustainability Project Manager, you will identify and make recommendations on innovative approaches to fuel switching, greenhouse gas (GHG) reductions, energy savings, embodied emissions and climate adaption for all District operations and purchases – and then successfully lead and/or support the design and implementation of these projects, policies/bylaws and programs. Current examples include the Zero Emission Fleet Strategy, EV charger installs, Climate-Friendly Commuter Program, major facility upgrades and the Corporate Zero Waste Strategy.
This is a new position that will cultivate strong partnerships with multiple internal departments and will comprehensively engage and collaborate with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders and the public. The position will present to Council, hire and manage consultants and project teams, develop and manage budgets, secure grants, and be the District of Saanich BC Hydro Corporate Energy Manager, which includes the delivery of the Strategic Energy Management Plan.
As a qualified candidate, you will have a Master’s Degree in planning, engineering, environmental sciences, sustainable development, energy management, or appropriate energy or engineering field; 5 years of experience in a combination of program, project and operational management including experience / responsibility managing diverse / complex projects, teams and staff; valid Class 5 Driver’s License and at least one of the following:
- registered as a Professional Member of the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP);
- registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) with Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC);
- registered Engineering Technologist;
- Certified Energy Manager;
- BCIT Sustainable Energy Management Associate; or
- UBC Masters in Clean Energy.
Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
The annual salary range for this exempt position is $99,130 - $111,755 with an excellent benefits package. Role Profile and competition information can be found at www.saanich.ca.
