A regular full-time position is available for an experienced social planner to work as part of our Community Planning team. You will be oversee important social planning projects and initiatives as guided by the  Official Community Plan and other strategic plans. You will be responsible for identifying, analyzing and prioritizing social issues, and will exercise considerable independent judgement and action in developing, completing and administering programs and projects. Your portfolio will include elements of housing policy, childcare, seniors, homelessness and community social development. You will also oversee a number of municipal grant processes, housing funding opportunities, and may be assigned other long range and social policy projects.

As a Social Planner 2, you will apply your education and expertise to help achieve our vision for a vibrant, supportive and sustainable community. With a positive, team-oriented outlook, you can integrate multiple ideas and manage competing perspectives and deadlines.

You will draft, interpret and communicate planning policies and maintain good relationships with internal and external clients. You may also be expected to manage the work of consultants engaged in major planning projects and participate on committees. Organizing public engagement processes, developing policies and writing reports with recommendations for Council’s consideration will round out your responsibilities. This work requires a good understanding of planning principles and processes, and legislation.

You have a postgraduate degree in planning or a related discipline complemented by progressively more responsible professional experience in social and policy planning, preferably gained in a municipal environment. A minimum of five years of professional planning experience is desirable. Membership or eligibility for membership with PIBC or CIP, and a BC Driver’s License are required. You have excellent project management and problem solving skills and solid computer knowledge.

The pay range for this unionized position is $46.75 - $55.35 per hour (2019 rates) based on a 35-hour work week.
