ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the Long Range Planning & Sustainability Manager, the Senior Planner is responsible for a diverse workload in long range planning, and a supportive role for complex current planning activities, projects, and initiatives. The Senior Planner ensures smooth and efficient execution of research, preparation, and implementation of Official Community Plan and Zoning Bylaw reviews, major strategic plan updates (e.g., parks, transportation, housing growth, neighbourhood plans), climate change policies, and other long-range planning and sustainability initiatives. The Senior Planner exercises considerable independent judgment in planning and carrying out assignments, requiring the ability to meet deadlines and set priorities, implement sound administrative and professional practices, and deliver quality service to citizens.
The ideal candidate will have a graduate degree in Urban, Community or Regional Planning or equivalent related discipline or undergraduate degree in a related field combined with a significant suitable combination of training and experience with a minimum of five (5) years progressively responsible planning experience within the last seven (7) years, in community or regional planning, preferably at the local government level. The successful candidate will have the knowledge and understanding of the philosophies, principles, best practices and objectives of community and regional land use planning and design, and environment and climate change issues with the ability to build collaborative relationships and inspire trust. The role requires excellent interpersonal communication and team-building skills, with a commitment to building a positive and effective organizational culture. Certified membership (RPP) with the Planning Institute of BC or equivalent affiliate, and the Canadian Institute of Planners is required.
The wage for this role is $47.62 per hour based on a 35-hour work week (approximately $86,670 annually).
