Langley City has all the amenities of any urban centre in very close proximity: great shopping, over 346 acres of parkland, world-class educational institutions, and entertainment facilities. The Surrey-Langley Skytrain project has been approved and will extend rapid transit into the City’s downtown core before the end of the decade.

The City is seeking a Regular Full-Time Planning Assistant 2 in the Development Services Department. Reporting to the Deputy Director of Development Services, the Planning Assistant 2 position is customer service oriented, providing technical information and guidance to the public with respect to bylaws, policies, the official Community Plan, the Zoning Bylaw, development guidelines and all other development related application processes. This role performs assigned duties with minimal direct supervision and interprets moderately complex technical information, policies and procedures and explains them to the public. The successful candidate is responsible for and will have the ability to conduct accurate and independent research in support of planning issues, using various sources and software applications such as drafting, mapping and other graphic design software to analyze, interpret and make recommendations based on information obtained.

RATE OF PAY: Pay Grade 21 - $34.17 to $36.32 (2021 C.U.P.E. rates)

HOURS OF WORK: 35 hours per week (Monday to Friday)

A University Diploma in Urban Planning and courses in urban design, geography, civil engineering or related disciplines and experience in a City/Municipality in the Province of B.C. or an equivalent combination of training and experience are desired. A University Degree in Urban Planning is preferred. A valid Class 5 B.C. Driver’s License is required.
