M’akola Development Services 2024 Student Internship Program

M’akola Development Services (MDS) is excited to announce the launch of our 2024 internship program! The program will enable up to three post-secondary students to supplement their academic training by participating in the daily workings of a development consulting firm. Successful applicants will be exposed to diverse development and planning projects and will have the opportunity to develop a broad range of skills and knowledge they can apply in their chosen careers and future life experiences. Successful applicants will have an opportunity to support projects with First Nations, Indigenous Organizations, Not-For-Profits and every level of government.

Interns will learn about and support a diverse variety of projects, including but not limited to housing needs assessments, community engagement and facilitation, qualitative and quantitative housing-based research, affordable housing development from concept to community, construction management, and the basics of being a professional consultant (like tracking billables, submitting invoices, and managing budgets and contracts).

For the 2024 program year, intern remuneration is set at $25 per hour for 35 hours per week.

To apply to the internship program, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be Indigenous, Black or a Person of Colour, or from a historically marginalized community.
  • Be a student pursuing post-secondary education. This position is most suitable for students in a Masters/Post-Graduate program or their final year of undergraduate studies, however students working through certificate or diploma programs are encouraged to apply.
  • Be able to work from Victoria/Langford, Courtenay or Vancouver.
