A temporary full-time position is available for an experienced professional planner to join our dynamic Community Planning and Housing team. As a Planner 2, you will have a high degree of complexity and responsibility in your work.  You will oversee multiple portfolios and help deliver important District priorities, including upcoming work on the Official Community Plan.  Your skills and creativity allow you to integrate multiple ideas, perspectives and best practises into your work.  With a positive outlook, you are able to identify effective solutions, while managing competing perspectives to meet deadlines. You will be part of a dedicated team, supporting and working closely with the Senior Planner and Manager.

 

The Planner 2 will contribute to the Department’s many work areas, including land use planning, housing, social planning, child care, employment intensification, and environmental and regional planning.  You will research, develop and implement policy, perform data analysis, and maintain strong relationships with internal and external clients.  You will review development applications to ensure compliance with District policies. As well, you may represent the department at community and Council meetings, work with consultants and participate in committees. Designing public engagement processes and writing Council reports will be regular parts of your job. As such, you will bring with you a good understanding of planning principles, processes, and legislation.

 

Qualifications 

You have a postgraduate degree in Planning or related discipline, complemented by progressive professional experience in long-range and policy planning, preferably gained in a municipal environment. A minimum of five years of professional planning experience is desirable. Membership or eligibility for membership with PIBC or CIP, and a BC Driver’s License are required. 

 

Details

Salary: The pay range for this unionized position is $54.44 to $64.47 per hour (2024 rates). 

Hours of Work: 35-hour work week
