Would you like to be part of a vibrant local government focused on creating new housing opportunities and growing sustainably?  Are you a service-oriented individual thrives in a fast-paced environment?  If so, the City of Delta invites you to apply for a full-time Planner 2 position in the Community Planning Division of the Development Department.

The City of Delta is seeking an individual with at least 3-5 years of professional planning experience. This Planner 2 role is for an enthusiastic, experienced project leader. The City is currently driving forward bold housing initiatives in response to Delta’s Housing Action Plan and new provincial legislation. This position may lead or support projects such as Official Community Plan updates, bylaw development for new forms of housing, pre-zoning initiatives, agricultural planning, mobility and accessibility initiatives, and other projects aligned with Council priorities.

Workload would be assigned based on both your skill-set and departmental needs. The ideal candidate is a team player, critical thinker, organized project manager, self-starter, and strong communicator who can represent the Department and lead the development of relevant reports and recommendations.  In addition to a degree in an appropriate discipline and, preferably, a postgraduate degree in Planning or a related design field, ideal candidates should have:

  • in-depth understanding of community planning principles, practices, techniques and methods, and municipal planning trends;
  • a track record of success in land use planning, housing, policy and bylaw development, and community engagement;
  • experience with multi-disciplinary teams and consultant projects requiring work planning, budgeting, and resource management;
  • experience with land development applications and processes;
  • fluency with applicable regulations, policies, by-laws and legislation; and,
  • expertise working in a local government setting or a field directly related to urban land use and development.

Membership or eligibility for membership in the Planning Institute of British Columbia and the Canadian Institute of Planners is required. Urban design or landscape architecture experience is an asset, but not a requirement, for this position. This position requires a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence.

This position may also include responsibilities to process development applications of a moderate to complex nature contingent on departmental needs.

The City of Delta provides a competitive salary of $51.84 - $61.38 per hour (commensurate with experience) and an excellent benefits package including Municipal Pension Plan as well as an earned-days-off system.
