Our Parks department has a regular full-time opportunity for a Parks Planner. As a key member of the District’s Parks Planning section, the Park Planner takes a lead role in developing and revitalizing our 100+ parks consisting of over 1,100 hectares of neighbourhood, community and natural parkland, and catering to a broad array of user groups.  

The incumbent of this professional and supervisory position, will work with our Parks Planning team to develop long range plan proposals, conceptual plans, specifications, cost estimates and tender documents.  The successful candidate will coordinate a wide range of park, open space and community planning projects and supervise specific capital projects, prepare and monitor budgets, research & interpret information and prepare terms of reference, as well as recommend the selection of, and oversee the work of consultants.

The Park Planner supervises a small group of professional and technical staff engaged in preparation of design proposals and detailed plans and drawings, and coordinates a wide range of park planning projects at all stages of the project lifecycle, from conception to report presentation.  The incumbent represents the department on committees and at meetings, and assists in identifying parks requirements and establishing park planning priorities.

Your degree in Landscape Architecture, Planning or related discipline is supplemented by considerable experience and sound knowledge of principles, practices, methods and techniques of landscape architecture, construction methods and materials, and an understanding of environmental and sustainability principles.  You have a proven ability to develop and/or oversee the development and preparation of drawings, specifications, cost estimates and budgets for a variety of park and other greenspace development and redevelopment projects.  Your ability to co-ordinate and manage public consultation processes as they relate to a wide range of park projects is supplemented by excellent customer service and communication skills.

The pay range for this full-time unionized position is $46.64 - $55.15 per hour and based on a 35-hour work week.
