The District of Lake Country has an exciting opportunity for a permanent full-time Manager of Planning based in Lake Country, BC.

Reporting to the Director of Planning & Development, you will be responsible for overseeing current planning, as well as business licensing. You will provide leadership and guidance to a dedicated Planning team, and you will have responsibility for the administration of the Zoning Bylaw and other relevant planning documents. You will lead the Planning team in delivering timely and effective services to our internal and external stakeholders through liaising with the business community, developers, the public, senior administration, the Mayor, and Council. You will effectively manage the divisions’ financial budget and ensure fiscal responsibility.

 

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing current planning files such as zoning, development permits and variances. 
  • Preparing and presenting reports to Senior Leadership or Council;
  • Working in collaboration with the municipality’s designated Approving Officer on subdivision and development related files;
  • Coaching and mentoring Planning staff on a range of land development matters; and
  • Communicating effectively including active listening, maintaining positive public relations and excellent problem-solving skills.

 

More About You

To qualify for this role, you must have a minimum of a master’s degree in planning or a related field and be eligible for membership with the Canadian Institute of Planners. Additionally, you must have a minimum of five years’ work experience in planning with a minimum of two of those years in a leadership role. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

 

As our ideal candidate, you have excellent communication and presentation skills, sound knowledge and experience in planning processes and best practices. You apply independent judgment to complex problems and have a high level of understanding in project management. You demonstrate strong leadership skills and promote a positive work environment for your team. Experience working in local government is considered an asset.

  • This exempt position offers a competitive annual salary in the range of $105,500 to $124,134 (2023 rates).
