The Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) is located on the beautiful central east coast of Vancouver Island, incorporating the municipalities of Nanaimo, Lantzville, Parksville, and Qualicum Beach, and seven unincorporated electoral areas that lie between Cassidy to the south and Bowser to the north. The RDN is situated within the traditional territories of several First Nations, including Snuneymuxw, Snaw-Naw-As and Qualicum First Nations and recognizes their rich cultural heritage. They benefit from inclusive First Nations governance with strong collaboration at all levels in addressing important and pressing issues.
 

About the Role
Reporting to the General Manager, Development and Emergency Service, the Manager of Long Range Planning, Energy and Sustainability is responsible for the coordinating, planning, organization and directing the regional planning, long range planning and sustainability initiatives and activities. The Manager, Long Range Planning, Energy & Sustainability is the primary liaison to the Climate Action Technical Advisory Committee, member municipalities staff and liaises with external agencies on regional issues related to growth management and sustainability and oversight of community planning in the Electoral Areas. The Manager plays an integral role in guiding the Regional District’s growth involving shared social, economic, and environmental goals.
This is an exciting opportunity for a values-driven planning and development professional with proven skills in policy development. The successful candidate will be a Registered Professional Planner or Licensed Professional Planner with membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners and the Planning Institute of BC and hold a post-graduate degree in planning or related field; with six (6) years of related experience in a local or regional government setting and three (3) years of supervisory experience. The preferred candidate will have considerable project management experience and excellent problem-solving skills with a capacity to excel with minimal guidance within constrained time frames. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. The ideal candidate will have experience working within or alongside local or regional government teams and external partners on diverse projects and initiatives, demonstrating knowledge of local, provincial, and federal legislation and bylaws.
The salary range for this position is $133,051 to $147,846 annually and is supplemented by a competitive total compensation plan.
