Are you passionate about ensuring development projects reflect culture, values, and safety? The Squamish Nation is seeking a Manager, Development Services to join our Planning and Capital Projects Department. This key leadership role will support the delivery of housing, community amenities, and economic development projects in partnership with Hiyam Housing and Nch’kay Development Corporation. As the Nation continues to implement its Integrated Development Strategy, you’ll be instrumental in optimizing benefits for Squamish People by managing development review processes and ensuring alignment with Squamish values, codes, and best practices. This is more than a technical role, it's a chance to shape the future of development on Squamish Nation lands in a way that reflects our community's cultural integrity and aspirations.

What You’ll Do

  • Oversee, develop, and manage the Nation’s development review process for all projects on Squamish Nation Reserve lands.
  • Integrate Squamish culture and values into development planning and decision-making.
  • Manage external consultants reviewing building permit applications and development impacts.
  • Collaborate with Hiyam Housing and Nch’kay Development Corporation throughout the review process.
  • Lead the implementation of an online permitting system using the Squamish Nation’s ESRI PLL platform.
  • Maintain strong relationships with community members, Council, and internal departments.
  • Ensure open, ongoing communication with the community using a variety of tools.
  • Analyze and synthesize data from engagement and professional input to inform development recommendations.
  • Support the review, updating, and implementation of planning policies and procedures.
  • Promote a safe and inclusive working environment while contributing to a respectful and collaborative team culture.

What We’re Looking For

  • A combination of education and experience in a related field.
  • Experience in development review processes and knowledge of building codes and standards.
  • Familiarity with online permitting systems—experience with ESRI PLL is a strong asset.
  • Strong technical foundation in planning, permitting, or infrastructure.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • A deep understanding of the responsibilities of the Nation as the authority having jurisdiction.
  • Commitment to cultural awareness and respect for Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw values, language, and traditions.
  • Ability to work with diplomacy, discretion, and professionalism.
  • Collaborative, solutions-focused, and highly organized.

Salary: $94,000 - $141,000

Candidates are typically offered compensation between the beginning to the midpoint of the range. We are committed to providing a fair and equitable package that reflects the value an individual brings to the organization.
