Position Overview

The City of Kamloops is searching for an experienced professional Planner to join our Community Planning team in the role of Community Planner. In this role you will perform a wide range of professional duties including work related to:

  • reviewing, amending, and reporting on the Official Community Plan, neighbourhood plans and the Zoning Bylaw;

  • analyzing data related to indicators;

  • managing projects, undertaking strategic initiatives, and research related to neighbourhood planning and implementation; and

  • acting as a staff liaison with a range of community groups, organizations and/or committees.

The successful candidate must have the following qualifications:

  • Completion of senior secondary school or its equivalent.

  • Completion of a master’s degree in Urban Planning or a related discipline, such as geography, sociology, urban development, architecture, or sustainable development.

  • Ability to become a member with the Canadian Institute of Planners within two years.

  • Minimum of five years of related planning experience in the public or private sector, with a minimum of two years' experience in community planning, including substantial experience leading, facilitating, and engaging stakeholder groups.

  • Valid BC Driver’s Licence - Class 5.

  • Proficient in intermediate Word, basic Excel and basic PowerPoint as demonstrated through testing (70% pass rate required).

Please note that this is a new job classification, and the pay grade is subject to agreement between the Employer and the Union.

Hourly Rate

$48.48. This hourly rate includes a 5% differential above the highest paid position supervised.

Hours & Days of Work

Monday - Friday:
8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (summer)
8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (winter)
The City offers a modified scheduling program
