$80,823.09 - $102,726.88 annually

The Provincial Caribou Recovery Program (Program) provides provincial coordination, strategic direction, funding and general oversight to recover caribou in B.C. The Program also works with other ministries, Nations, governments, and interested parties to develop, implement and monitor management actions and provincial strategies to ensure we are meeting or exceeding provincial and federal population and habitat objectives.

The Caribou Planning Initiatives Licensed Section Head provides leadership for the daily operations and delivery of provincial Caribou Recovery Program planning-related initiatives, including supervision and oversight, managing staff, financial resources and relationships, applying legislation, policies and professional standards consistently, participating in provincial policy development and overseeing program delivery and technical and professional projects. This position builds and maintains effective working relationships with management and executive, natural resource sector partners and leads or supports collaboration and partnership development with First Nations on caribou recovery initiatives. Qualifications for this role include:

  • Registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a fully licensed professional with the British Columbia professional association as required by the specialty area (i.e. Association of Forest Professionals, Institute of Agrologists, Association of Professional Engineers & Geoscientists). (Note: immediately eligible for registration is defined as able to transfer a current membership from an applicable jurisdiction. Applicants must confirm their eligibility with their professional organization. Confirmation of registration / eligibility will be required before an offer of employment can be made).
  • Degree in a related professional field or equivalent as recognized by the relevant association and 48 months of related experience*.

*Related experience must include:

  • Experience managing technical and/or professional staff in natural resource management.
  • Experience in natural resource planning or conservation planning.
  • Experience in negotiating/mediating solutions. 
  • Experience providing advice and recommendations to senior level management, and/or internal and/or external interested parties. 
  • Experience applying project management methodology and principles to projects.
