SFU - DLOG700 - Dialogue and Engagement: Principles and Concepts

This three-day, remotely delivered course provides a practical introduction to dialogue and public engagement. You will learn key frameworks for understanding the nature and core elements of dialogue and civic engagement, the power dynamics involved in engagement, and how to choose the right dialogue process for different issues and contexts.

This course is offered via online-supported delivery. Access opens on the first date listed to allow you to complete pre-readings and assignments in preparation for your first class. Virtual classes begin on the second date listed and run from 10 am to 3 pm PT. The course will end one week after the final date listed to allow time to complete a final assignment.

  • Understand dialogic approaches to conflict

  • Use dialogue and civic engagement more effectively in your work

Who should take this course?

This course is open to anyone who would like to learn more about the principles and concepts of dialogue and civic engagement. It is suitable for learners who do not have previous experience of dialogue and civic or community engagement.

Hardware and software requirements

You will need a computer that is connected to the internet so that you can access Canvas, our online course management system. You can check if your browser is compatible with Canvas by accessing Canvas guides here. We recommend you use Google Chrome or Firefox.

Also, you will need to enable your computer’s audio and microphone to participate in live sessions offered through the Blackboard Collaborate virtual platform (within Canvas). You can check if your computer is compatible with Blackboard Collaborate here.
