Join the PIBC Vancouver Island North Chapter and Vancouver Island University's Master of Community Planning Program (VIU MCP) for an Urban Master Class, book launch and reception on September 6!
 

The PIBC Vancouver Island North Chapter and VIU MCP are delighted to invite you to an Urban Design Master Class with Michael von Hausen from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM on September 6*. Join MCP students at VIU for a fun-filled afternoon of creating, imagining, and putting pens to paper. This learning opportunity is worth 3.0 PIBC CPL Units.

PIBC Members: $55 / Non-Members: $75

Following the Master Class, there will be a book launch & reception (also at VIU) from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Michael von Hausen will be speaking to his latest text titled Public Realm: The New Makers Handbook (2022).  Copies will be available for purchase (cash is appreciated). Through its many illustrations and examples, the text provides both the theoretical foundation and forward-thinking ideas for the many components of public realm design, from streets and pathways to squares and parks. It inspires the design of fun, captivating, and complete places.  Come and enjoy complimentary appetizers and socializing with planning colleagues and VIU students.

*Please note: The Master Class is limited to 20 participants (PIBC Members & Non-Members). Registration for the Master Class will automatically register you for the reception.  Interested students, please do not register for the Master Class via this portal - talk to your VIU Planning Instructor instead.

All participants joining the Master Class will meet at VIU at 1:00 PM.  Please note that there is paid parking on campus, and as this is the first day of the new semester available parking will at the lower reaches of campus.  A campus map, list of drawing supplies, and a workbook will be provided to all registrants.
 

The book launch and reception is also available for all PIBC members and VIU students who are not registered for the Master Class.  If you plan to attend the reception only, please click here to RSVP so we can ensure enough space is reserved.  The Reception is tentatively scheduled in the Malaspina Theatre (Building 310).
 

Michael von Hausen brings 40 years in public and private practice as both a professional planner and landscape architect. His global consulting practice has won many local, provincial, and international awards for its innovation and sensitivity. Michael combines his practice with university teaching as an adjunct professor at both Simon Fraser University and Vancouver Island University. He directed the award-winning certificate in Urban Design Program at Simon Fraser University for 20 years. As co-founder and chief executive officer of the Great Communities Institute, he helps advance progressive ideas in bridging urban design and real estate development to create greater communities. Michael is a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Planners (FCIP) and a past President of the BC Society of Landscape Architects.
