Deep Dive – Indigenous Community Planning
February 16th 2017
6:30 PM - 8:30 PM PST

IAP2 BC invites you to our first Deep Dive event of 2017. Join other local P2 practitioners to dive into case studies to explore lessons learned on public participation. Refreshments and snacks will be provided.

DEEP DIVE: Indigenous Community Planning – Public Participation as a Necessary Ingredient for Healing and Reconciliation
Jeff Cook, Principal and Sarah Gillett, Community Planner
Beringia Community Planning Inc.

Indigenous community planning happens in a unique context shaped by a history of colonization. Assimilative structures, policies and practices have led to trauma, mistrust and disengagement.

In this context, how are community planners and facilitators eradicating or perpetuating colonization? Public participation is not only good practice, it is crucial to helping communities heal, build self-determination and build community unity and hope.

Come to this Deep Dive workshop with Beringia Community Planning Inc. to learn from their over 25 years of experience working in Indigenous Community Planning. We will use case studies to explore the role of public participation in building trust and hope, and share culturally-relevant methods and tools through an interactive process to inspire engagement, community building and healing.

Cost: Free for (IAP2) Members, $15 for non-Members
