Thank You To Everyone Participated in the PIBC 2015 Annual Conference - Beyond Borders!

PIBC's 2015 Annual Conference - Beyond Borders - unfolded over two spectacular days, April 16-17, 2015, at the Washington State Convention Center, and the Sheraton Seattle Hotel in downtown Seattle, Washington. Special thanks to the hundreds of attendees, presenters and speakers, volunteers, sponsors and supporters who made it such a great success - Thank you!

This was the first time that PIBC had ever hosted it's annual conference outside of not only British Columbia and the Yukon, but outside of Canada - truly beyond borders. With insigthful keynote speakers, engaging and informative breakout sessions, a host of rich and extensive exploratory walking tours throughout the Seattle area, as well as great opportunities to interact and network with old colleagues, friends, and new connections... it was another great and truly unique conference experience. An experienece greatly enhanced with the American Planning Association's 2015 National Planning Conference also taking place in Seattle immediately following the PIBC annual conference.

Conference Highlights....

  • Keynotes:  Two inspiring and insightful keynote addresses by Janette Sadik-Khan from New York City - talking about the untapped power of the street, and Alex Gilliam from Philadelphia talking about engaing youth in building their communities.
  • Sessions:  A host of conference sessions with over 40 presenters covering engaging and important topics ranging from: Ethics, Planning Law, and Financial Tools, to: First Nations Community Planning, Social Media, Plannning & Health, and much, much more...
  • Walking Tours:  Nine rich, diverse and educational walking tours throughout the Seattle area, covering neighbourhoods like South Lake Union, Capitol Hill, Ballard, Pioneer Square and Seattle's Waterfront, and topics such as: Heritage and Waterfront Planning, Urban Agriculture, Housing, Arts and Culture, and much more, all delivered by a wonderful group of local planners and experts from Seattle area - special thanks to them all!
  • Networking & Socializing:  In addition to the networking throughout the conference, a final opportunity to socialize and network atop the Sheraton Seattle Hotel while enjoying the spectacular view of downtown Seattle as the sun set over Elliott Bay and Puget Sound during the wrap-up cocktail reception.
  • Two Great Conferences in One Place:  Following the conclusion of the PIBC conference, there was the opportunity for PIBC attendees to stay on and take in the wealth of learning opportunities presented by the American Planning Association's National Planning conference in Seattle.
