The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority manages port lands at the Port of Vancouver, and leads the efficient and reliable movement of cargo and passengers. 


Reporting to the Director of Planning & Development and working with two other managers and a team of planning professionals, the Manager of Planning is responsible for the development of land use plans for VFPA properties, administering VFPA’s development approval processes, and representing port interests in external land use planning initiatives. In this role you will: 

  • Plan, organize, participate in, supervise and evaluate the work of the land use planning function of the Planning & Development department. 
  • Administer the port’s Land Use Plan and other related short and long-range plans.
  • Plan, direct, participate in and monitor reviews of port and tenant development projects in accordance with VFPA’s project review and building permit processes.
  • Participate and advocate port interests in planning initiatives undertaken by outside agencies such as municipal, regional or provincial governments.
  • Provide land use planning input to VFPA’s development projects, operational initiatives, and leasing activities.
  • Develop and implement engagement strategies for customers, community, First Nations, and local government related to land use plans and development approval processes.
  • Participate in the development of departmental plans and be responsible for the development and implementation of activities and programs designed to meet the intention of specific strategic priorities.
  • Manage staff, ensuring that team and individuals are motivated, have defined position descriptions and reporting arrangements, their performance goals are clear and actively managed and development needs are defined and addressed.

 

As the ideal candidate, you have a university degree in urban planning, transportation planning, geography or urban design along with a minimum of 5 years of related experience at a management level, or an acceptable combination of education and experience. You have excellent leadership qualities and management skills in addition to excellent communication and public speaking skills to effectively interface with all contacts. You have a strong customer service orientation while managing a breadth of responsibilities as well as demonstrate effective decision-making, planning and initiative.
