Community Planning or Current Planning

The District of Saanich is one of the four core municipalities within the Capital Regional District. The community is home to 114,000 citizens and is comprised of urban, suburban and rural areas, and 12 diverse neighborhoods. Saanich is known for its progressive initiatives in the areas of Environmental Protection, Climate Change, and Community Planning.

Do you have Planner experience yet not want to be tied down to a Monday to Friday schedule? Are you looking for a flexible work schedule and enjoy project work? If so, Saanich is seeking up to 6 experienced Planners to serve as part of a casual pool in the Community Planning and Current Planning department to do project work, and tasks on an as needed basis. The successful candidates may be called on for short-term project work (research, analysis, policy development), provide vacation relief or assist with time sensitive initiatives. 

The successful candidates will be Planners who are innovative and self-motivated, with a focus on customer service. Skill sets will include thorough knowledge of planning principles and legislation, as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills. The individuals will be team focused, working with a diverse group of professionals to implement our Official Community Plan.  

The successful candidates may be called upon to undertake a wide variety of municipal planning work including: managing community planning projects; managing development applications, designing and delivering public engagement processes, implementing principles of good urban design, writing planning reports and correspondence, interpreting the Zoning Bylaw and undertaking research and analysis.  

Requirements include a Masters Degree in Planning (or a related Master’s Degree may be considered with appropriate experience), five years experience in the field of public planning, preferably municipal planning; membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners and a valid BC Class 5 Drivers Licence.  Consideration may be given to candidates who hold an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

This is a C.U.P.E. Local 2011 position with a wage of $48.26 per hour plus 13% in lieu of benefits.
