About the Opportunity

Our thriving Fort St. John office is looking to add a talented and enthusiastic Community Consultant to join our existing team of engineers, planners, and other professionals serving Indigenous Communities.

We provide a broad range of services to Indigenous Communities spanning all of their portfolios, including governance, policy, finance, lands, infrastructure, and housing. Our clients are seeking innovative ideas and customized solutions that integrate multiple perspectives.  We currently have the privilege of working within the Treaty 8 territory, as such, we find ourselves in search of another talented and enthusiastic professional who can work with us in continuing to build our practice with a particular emphasis on client relations, community and regional planning, policy development, economic development, infrastructure planning and design, and public engagement services.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Delivering exceptional service to our client communities, being directly involved in the technical aspects of the assignment.  This is likely to include:
    • Helping clients develop and implement strategic plans;
    • Helping clients with planning and implementation of infrastructure systems, and
    • Helping clients identify, secure and leverage a wide range of funding sources.
  • Assisting with market implementation of our strategy;
  • Preparing client plans in coordination with our market leaders;
  • Advising clients and team members;
  • Leading on construction projects as required;
  • Developing long-term commitments with clients and Indigenous communities; and
  • Building relationships upon common interests with Indigenous communities and their neighbouring local governments.

About You

Given the variety of project needs and a desire to find the right candidate, we will consider a wide range of experience, education and backgrounds.  However, preference will be given to those candidates who are registered (or eligible for registration) as a professional engineer with EGBC or a professional planner with the PIBC who has 5 years of related experience or more working alongside clients in a consulting environment.  Experienced professionals who have a proven history of excellent client advocacy skills and working alongside communities will be given priority.

In addition, the following attributes would be considered a great benefit to this role:

  • Relevant experience and a strong desire to grow your career and build on your technical and consulting strengths while serving Indigenous communities throughout Western Canada;
  • Familiarity with Indigenous Services Canada and other related agency guidelines and funding processes;
  • Proven project leadership skills within a multidisciplinary team;
  • Effective written and oral communication, facilitation, and presentation skills;
  • Ability to think strategically about the services that we can offer Indigenous communities and their neighbouring local governments;
  • A self-starter who is interested in continuing to facilitate and integrate internal services and develop our external service offerings with existing and new clients;
  • Passionate about working closely with Indigenous communities, to help address key community planning and engineering issues and advance joint-servicing agreements with neighbouring local governments;
  • Comfortable with developing and nurturing positive interpersonal relationships with people from varying backgrounds; and
  • An aptitude for problem solving, researching and analyzing information, and clearly communicating the results.

As this position requires travel to remote communities a valid Class 5 Drivers Licence is required.
