We are currently hiring for a passionate and dedicated Planning Technician to join our team. This is a junior level technical planning position with a focus on Development Planning. You will perform varied duties at the Front Counter and in the Area Planning & Development Division.




This position will be responsible for:

  • Providing information services, including by-law and policy interpretation and advice related to planning and development.
  • Communicate with the public, applicants, agents, external agencies and departments and will prepare reports and correspondence on development applications.
  • Act as a resource to Planning Operations Clerks in carrying out their duties and provide technical assistance in carrying out other planning duties including research, data collection and tabulation.



  • The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree in planning, geography, economics, commerce, political science or a related field from a recognized post-secondary educational institution.
  • Previous work experience in the planning field.
  • The Planning Technician must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and clients and have good communication, written and oral presentation skills be proficient in a wide variety of relevant computer applications.
  • Working knowledge of planning principles, as well as the Local Government Act, Surrey by-laws, regulations, policies, procedures and standards applicable to planning and development are required.
