We are hiring a full time Research Technician that focuses on Planning Policy in our Community Planning Section of the Planning Department. 

 

This position is dependent on funding. At the time of posting it is anticipated the term will last for approximately twelve (12) months with the potential for an extension should funding be renewed.

 

Your key responsibilities are: 

Supporting a number of ongoing and pending policy projects, including various area planning processes.  Preparing consultation materials, participate in consultation programs and undertake land use policy and research analysis.  This position may support the support the processing of development applications.

 

Our ideal candidate has:

  • Knowledge of urban and regional planning, zoning by-laws and official community plans;
  • Experience in preparation of consultation materials, partication in consultation programs;
  • Experience in land use policy and research and analysis;
  • Ability to conduct accurate and independent research, using various sources, and apply a variety of software to analyze, interpret and make recommendations based on information obtained;
  • Knowledge of, and experience in, local government functions, along with knowledge of governing legislation.
  • Ability to write clear, concise reports and communications materials, and to verbally and visually deliver the content to large audiences in an effective manner;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with senior managers, staff, staff of other agencies;
  • Ability to prepare and maintain reports and records related to the work.
  • University graduation in a suitable discipline, plus some related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficiency in the Windows XP environment and the MS Office Suite;
  • Knowledge of the AMANDA application tracking program, ADOBE Creative Cloud and MS Publisher would be an asset.

 

The successful candidate will be required to complete a Police Information Check as a condition of employment.  (Note – not required a part of the application process; however, will be required upon consideration for employment)
