The City of Delta is seeking an individual with considerable professional land use planning experience. This Planner 2 position involves developing long range plans.  Key responsibilities may include development of a Housing Action Plan, future Official Community Plan / Area Plan updates, and the development of policy/guidelines on a variety of planning-related matters, including the City’s development processes.  This position also involves reviewing development applications and responding to public enquiries to the Community Planning and Development Department.


In addition to a degree in an appropriate discipline and, preferably, a postgraduate degree in Planning, you have an in-depth understanding of community planning principles, practices, techniques and methods, municipal planning trends, housing policy, land economics, and public engagement.  You have direct experience with land use planning and development processes and are conversant with applicable regulations, policies, by-laws and legislation. You have expertise working in a local government setting or a field directly related to urban land use and development.  A critical thinker and strong communicator with plenty of initiative, you are able to represent the Department on municipal and regional committees, act as a resource, prepare relevant reports and recommendations, and explain complex technical concepts and plans to non-technical individuals.


Membership or eligibility for membership, in the Planning Institute of British Columbia or the Canadian Institute of Planners is required. This position requires a valid BC class 5 driver’s licence.

The City of Delta provides a competitive salary of $45.83 – $54.26 per hour (commensurate with experience) and an excellent benefits package including Municipal Pension Plan as well as an earned-days-off system.
