We are seeking the expertise of a highly motivated and committed urban design professional to join the Development Services Division of City’s Planning & Development team.  The Planner 2 – Urban Design will be responsible for highly complex urban design, development and planning work consisting of review, analysis and development of urban design concepts for transit-oriented and other major developments.  The successful candidate will be involved in rezoning and development permit applications and a variety of special projects including public realm plans.  Working with other urban planning, transportation engineering and parks and open space professionals, the nature of the work is multi-disciplinary and within a team environment.


Examples of key work activities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Providing urban design analysis and advice on a variety of complex rezoning and development permit applications;
  • Project managing developments from enquiry through to the issuance of the development permit including overseeing input from review groups and resolving conflicts.
  • Preparing design policies and guidelines, public realm plans and reports to City Council;  and
  • Communicating urban design concepts both graphically and in writing to a variety of stakeholders including City Council, community groups, developers and area residents.


Our ideal candidate will possess university graduation in an appropriate discipline and preferably have a post-graduate degree in Architecture, Urban Design, Community and Regional Planning or related field.  Membership or eligibility for membership in the Architectural Institute of B.C. and/or Planning Institute of B.C. is preferred or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
