Bring your passion, training and experience to this exciting opportunity. As one of the fastest growing communitites in British Columbia we are looking for a highly motivated and committed housing planning professional to join the City’s growing Community Planning team.


You will be involved in the ongoing implementation of Coquitlam’s Housing Affordability Strategy to increase the supply, mix, typology, and tenure of housing in Coquitlam.  This position will also facilitate affordable housing partnerships between the City of Coquitlam, private sector developers, non-profit housing providers, and senior levels of government, identify and act upon senior level government funding initiatives and opportunities that will contribute to the success of affordable housing partnerships, and build relationships with non-profit housing providers in order to encourage the creation of additional affordable housing stock in Coquitlam.


Ideally you have 3 to 5 years’ progressive experience in the field, and have thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and objectives of housing policy and development. You possess a University graduation in (graduate degree preferable) in Community and Regional Planning, Community Development, Urban Land Economics, or Real Estate. Proven policy implementation experience in these fields will be considered an asset: 

  • Housing policy and affordable housing development;
  • Facilitating housing partnerships and building relationships with developers and non-profit housing providers;
  • Negotiating Housing Agreements;
  • Analysis of urban land economics and development proformas;
  • Preparing Rental Housing and Tenant Relocation Strategies;
  • Knowledge of land use and development planning;
  • Eligibility for membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners/Planning Institute of BC;
