Senior Planner

Reporting to the Director of Planning, the Senior Planner will assist the Director in the coordination of the activities of the Planning Department. Other responsibilities include work related to the municipal planning program including the review and processing of development applications, research and special projects. This is a position which involves a high degree of independence, and requires advanced planning experience of considerable complexity and variety. The incumbent is expected to be timely, responsive and solution-oriented when dealing with all planning and development matters.

Qualifications for this position include, but are not limited to: 

  • Membership in the Canadian Institute of Planners;
  • A professional planning degree, or equivalency of skills, qualifications and abilities;
  • Minimum 10 years of planning and land use experience preferably in a BC municipal setting;
  • Considerable knowledge of land use planning principles and practices; and
  • Considerable knowledge of current planning legislation, tools and regulatory responsibilities including knowledge and experience in development control, urban design and environmental protection best practices.


This is a regular, full-time (35h/w) union position offering an hourly wage of $48.09 (2016 rate) and a comprehensive benefits package.
