Job Description:

Reporting to the Planning Manager, the Senior Transit Planner is accountable for providing transit planning expertise and leadership to larger scope planning projects that include transit operational plans, transit service plans, long range transit plans, feasibility studies, implementation plans and defining capital project requirements and policy development in a multi-disciplinary team environment. 

 

Key Accountabilities:

  • Contributes transit planning expertise in the development of program/project strategies, plans and tactics.
  • Provides transit planning expertise and leadership to junior staff on designated projects.
  • Leads the development of transit planning, methods, techniques and models in support of designated project deliverables, ensuring compliance with Department standards, policies and procedures.
  • Contributes as a member of the team to prepare professional quality reports, other written materials and oral reports for dissemination to BC Transit management team, BC Transit Board of Directors, municipal councils and staff, external agencies and the general public.
  • Contributes as a member of a program team, providing transit planning expertise, identifying planning and project risks and opportunities, based on analysis of transport data, trends, and issues.
  • Develops and manages relationships with stakeholders to understand needs, keep them informed and resolve moderate issues within defined limits. 
  • Performs related duties in keeping with the purpose and accountabilities of the job.


Qualifications:

The competencies for the position would typically be acquired through a degree in planning, engineering or a related discipline, and 3-4 years’ experience providing expertise in an agency specializing in planning or Transportation; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Additional Information

  • This position requires the completion of a Criminal Record Check and/or Vulnerable Sector Search.
  • An eligibility list will be established for future vacancies, including Transportation Planner.
  • This position will be open until filled.
  • Some travelling around the province will be required (an average of 1-2 trips per month and sometimes overnight).
