The 12th Annual Urban Issues Film Festival will be taking place on Friday, November 10th in Building 356, Room 109 (the auditorium) from 2:00 until 9:00 p.m. on the Vancouver Island University Campus.

As we have in the past, we will be showing a mix of short and longer films. Our theme this year is “Tactical Urbanism/ The Creative City.” We are making space for having two speakers this year (Laura Lee Coles and Michael Geselbracht), each with a unique area of expertise, but together representing citizen action. We are hoping to show the documentary, “Citizen Jane” as the closing film, which documents Jane Jacobs’ fight to save historic NYC neighbourhoods from the ruthless redevelopment plans of power broker Robert Moses in the early 1960s.

The festival is being sponsored by the Planning Institute of B.C., the Geography Department, the Geographic Students’ Union, and the Master of Community Planning program.

As in past years, pizza will be provided at the dinner hour free, along with popcorn and beverages. Pre-registration at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/12th-annual-urban-issues-film-festival-tickets-38421399440?aff=ttd is required to ensure we have enough food. Parking in Lot N is suggested (turn right opposite the bus loop off 4th Street).
