UBC Centre for Cultural Planning and Development

New Online Workshop: Culture and Sustainable Development
May 26, 2014 - 9:40am - June 9, 2014 - 9:40am

The University of British Columbia (UBC) Continuing Studies Centre for Cultural Planning and Development is offering a new three-week online workshop, “Culture and Sustainable Development” starting June 16, 2014.

In this workshop, learn about applying a cultural perspective to all policy; why the arts are essential in human development; the impact of bureaucracy on culture and sustainable development, and how this impact may be countered. If sustainable development is an essential aspiration of public policy-makers, then a cultural dimension to planning may be the key to most effectively achieving this goal.

Instructor: JON HAWKES is the author of the ground breaking "The Fourth Pillar of Sustainability: Culture’s essential role in public planning" and is one of Australia’s leading commentators on cultural policy. He is currently Resident Cultural Analyst at the Cultural Development Network of Australia.

Three scheduled online sessions, Mon Jun 16, Jun 23 & Jun 30, 3-5:00pm PDT.

Registration closes June 9, 2014

These online workshops are designed to fill the gap between a typical short webinar and a longer online course. Each workshop meets online for two hours, once a week for three weeks, combines lectures and small group discussion, and is led by an international expert. There is also an online discussion forum to continue the conversation with other practitioners between live sessions.
