The first lunch and learn of 2014 will be Thursday February 13th, 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Elijah Smith Building, 300 Main Street, in boardroom 2C.

February’s session will be led by Jack Kobayahi MCIP, RPP and will be focussed on rustic residential development.  Jack is interested in exploring the concept of a new type of off-grid subdivision that would feature reduced standards for municipal systems including roads, water and sewer. The houses would be smaller and tree clearing would be highly regulated.   The reduction of house size and standards would also reduce costs and increase affordability and would provide a housing experience that would be attractive to a broad sector of the Whitehorse population.

Jack Kobayashi is a Whitehorse-based Architect and Urban Planner and a partner with Kobayashi + Zedda. Jack has designed and developed numerous forms of housing types in Whitehorse including single family, multi-residential, mixed use condos and senior's residences.  Kobayashi + Zedda is also concerned with the lack of affordable housing in the Territory and has worked with groups like Second Opinion Society, Blood Ties and Challenge Vocational Services to find homes for the hard-to-house.
