Description:

Poor asset management is one of the biggest challenges facing our communities as it directly threatens the sustainability and quality of life in BC communities. Integrated and proactive asset management can be utilized as a means to advancing objectives around sustainable land-use patterns, environmental preservation, and fiscal sustainability. Asset management is not just an engineering concern, it is not just a financial concern, and it is not just a land use planning concern – it is all of the above. The sustainability of our communities requires the integration of planning, engineering and finance.

This workshop will explain asset management concepts, its evolution, and importance. It will further identify tools and process that can help support and transform conventional asset management practices in BC communities. These include Asset Management BC’s asset management framework, the Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development’s Community Infrastructure Planning Decision Support Tool, the Envision rating system; and the Town of Gibsons’ Eco-Asset Strategy.
