Webinar Overview

This third annual webinar recognizing National Indigenous Peoples' Day will focus on learning innovative strategies for engaging Indigenous youth on climate issues. Indigenous youth from across BC and Yukon will share their experiences, concerns and insights on the important topics of climate action and the environment. 

Join keynote speaker Sarah Gillett, Senior Engagement Specialist with MODUS, who will be presenting on effective ways of engaging Indigenous youth specifically in the area of climate action/environmental issues. She will discuss specific approaches, strategies and sensitivities to keep in mind when planners are working with Indigenous youth.

Our Keynote Speaker

Sarah Gillett, Senior Engagement Specialist, MODUS Planning, Design & Engagement
Sarah Gillett is a settler of British and French descent who lives in the traditional unceded territory of the  xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) and səl̓ilwətaɁɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) people. Sarah is a community planner and community engagement specialist who has had the honour of supporting First Nations with community-driven planning processes including land use planning, comprehensive community planning and health planning for communities across BC, the Yukon and Ontario. She is the engagement lead at MODUS Planning, Design and Engagement and a member of the International Association of Public Participation's Indigenous Engagement Community of Practice. 

Youth Presenters

Cheyenne Bradley - Whitehorse Yukon
Cheyenne is a citizen of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation in Whitehorse, Yukon. In 2019, Cheyenne graduated from the Bachelor of Science Program in the Northern Environmental and Conservation Science Program from the University of Alberta in a partnered program with Yukon College (now Yukon University). Her passions are to help the environment including fish and wildlife.

Sierra Tasi-Baker – North Vancouver, BC
Sierra is from the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation) and is also xʷməθkʷəy̓əm  (Musqueam), Kwakwaka’wakw/Musgamagw Dzawada'enuxw, Tɫingit, Xaayda (Haida) and Hungarian. Sierra has a degree in Environmental Design from the School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture (SALA) at UBC and a Master’s in Science in Sustainable Urbanism from University College London’s Bartlett School of Planning in the UK. Sierra is an indigenous urban planning, architectural and landscape design consultant at Sky Spirit Consulting. Sierra focuses on furthering indigenous design and research methodologies through combining oral history, primary archival research, Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) and Coast Salish design techniques.
