Log Book Resources

A Candidate member in good standing who is working to become a Certified member, or 'Registered Professional Planner' with the Planning Institute of British Columbia and the Canadian Institute of Planners, must record their work experience in a log book – in accordance with the bylaws of the Institute in place at the time they were admitted as a Candidate member – to meet the minimum 'responsible professional planning work experience’ requirements for Certified membership.

The info mentioned below only applies for Candidate Members who applied before June 2012.

Certified Member Resources – Unrelated Degree

Below is an overview of the process for a Candidate Member (formerly Provisional Member) in good standing who holds a degree which is unrelated to planning (as designated by the Institute) to become a Certified Member (formerly Full Member), or 'Registered Professional Planner' with PIBC and CIP.

While Candidate members should be logging their responsible planning work experience as they go, this formal process should be started once a Candidate member has been working in planning and achieved a minimum of six year’s of responsible planning work experience.

Certified Membership Process – Related Degree

Below is an overview of the process for a Candidate member in good standing who holds a university degree which is related to planning (as designated by the Institute), and who was admitted to Candidate membership in the Institute prior to June 11th, 2012, to become a Certified member, or 'Registered Professional Planner' with PIBC and CIP.

Certified Membership Process – CIP Recognized Planning Degree

Below is an overview of the process for a Candidate Member in good standing, who holds a university degree in planning from a school/program which is formally accredited by the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP) & Planning Institute of British Columbia (PIBC), to become a Certified member, or 'Registered Professional Planner' with PIBC and CIP.
