Background

As the professional association of planners in British Columbia and the Yukon, the Planning Institute of British Columbia has been dedicated to the advancement of the planning profession for more than 50 years. PIBC is the westernmost affiliate of the Canadian Institute of Planners – the national association of professional planners.

The Institute was incorporated in 1958 under the Society Act of British Columbia with just eight founding members. It now has nearly 1,600 members.

Linda Allen FCIP, RPP

Subject Matter Expert

Linda L. Allen FCIP, RPP  has worked in communities of all sizes and challenges across Canada. Early in her career, she worked with the Alberta Task Force on Urbanization, at a time when the province was transitioning from a predominantly rural to an increasingly urbanized society. With the City of Ottawa, Ms. Allen was among the first vanguard to solidly embed citizen involvement in planning.

Subject Matter Experts

As part of our ongoing media outreach, PIBC has developed list of Subject Matter Experts. The knowledge and experience of our Subject Matter Experts is being offered to assist journalists in accessing information related to current and topical planning issues and stories.

Members of the media are invited to connect with a select group of volunteer PIBC members and Registered Professional Planners who have significant experience, expertise, and knowledge in variety of areas of planning practice.

PIBC Representatives

The Institute appoints or nominates a number of PIBC Representatives to various external boards, committees, and other organizations. Their roles vary, depending on the body or organization, on which they serve. In many cases they act as a representative of the planning profession or PIBC, as well as a liaison between the Institute and the particular body or organization.
