The PIBC Mentoring Program is designed to serve the UBC SFU and UNBC planning programs, as well as PIBC provisional members and planners new to the province who are seeking PIBC membership. The program is designed to make it a more valuable experience for both the students/provisional members and the mentors. The aim is to provide students/provisional members with a means to seek advice and guidance from practising professionals whose skills and experience match students/provisional members’ areas of interest. For professional planners, this is a major opportunity to help guide a new generation of practitioners. Mentors are also eligible to earn credit under the Institute’s Continuing Professional Development Program.
The program is headed by a Mentoring Committee that reviews all applications by mentors and students/provisional members and make the appropriate matches.
The program requires full members of PIBC who are willing to make a modest yet valuable commitment to a student or provisional member with similar interests. There is an expectation that, for those mentors who are assigned students, contact will be made several times each semester, including the occasional face to face meeting. This means that mentors to students should work in the Greater Vancouver or Prince George areas, or be traveling through one of these areas from time to time. For provisional members interested in a mentor, we will endeavor to find one who works in your community.
We urge all members of PIBC who would like to participate in the program to submit an application form (available from the link below or from the PIBC office).
Regards,
Mentoring Committee
