Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Wayfinding Project Manager, the Assistant Planner provides support for the coordination and development and implementation of near-term initiatives in the delivery of TransLink’s transit wayfinding system including transit wayfinding plans and strategies, participating in planning projects and developing modification recommendations to planning programs. Liaises with planning staff, departments and other TransLink companies to coordinate services and work activities. Assists in the development of work plans and projects, provides assistance in developing transit wayfinding systems and transportation planning initiatives, conducts research, and attends meetings. Assists with planning and coordination of TransLink’s wayfinding programs and contracted services, conducts analysis in support of RFP processes and developing supporting materials.
Responsibilities will include:
1. Provides support for the development of long-term and short-term wayfinding plans and strategies and participates in projects by:
a) assisting in prioritizing competing wayfinding planning projects, strategies and related activities,
b) collecting data, conducting analysis, writing reports, preparing documents and presentations,
c) assisting in the development of timelines, budgets and work plans in support of project activities,
d) providing input for projects or policy development, and
2. Liaises with internal groups, individuals and various departments to coordinate the delivery of TransLink projects by:
a) establishing working relationships with planning staff and other Translink companies, and
b) coordinating daily work activities, exchanging information and building knowledge and technical expertise in the planning field.
3. Assists in the coordination and development of work plans and projects including:
a) providing input and participating in the development and monitoring of short and long-term transit wayfinding and transportation plans and strategies (i.e. 10 year, annual, and other related plans), and
b) collecting and coordinating components and compilation of data, ensuring data integrity prior to use in key projects.
4. Provides assistance in the development of initiatives and supports planning activities by:
a) developing and coordinating background information,
b) undertaking wayfinding best practices and conducting research,
c) coordinating and attending internal and external meetings, and
d) coordinating and assisting with mail-outs, follow-up, presentations and the creation of materials required for public input sessions and key stakeholder meetings.
5. Assists in TransLink’s wayfinding planning programs and planning of contracted services including:
a) conducting analysis in support of RFP processes, and
b) developing materials and documents to support contract and agreement negotiations.
6. Performs related duties as assigned, such being items of minor nature that do not affect the value of the job.
Qualifications:
Requires completion of a minimum of two (2) years post secondary education in an undergraduate degree program in a discipline related to urban planning/design, planning, geography, environmental studies or other related discipline.
Minimum of one year prior experience in a transportation planning environment with an emphasis on urban planning and development.
A further period of one (1) year is required on the job to become familiar with TransLink’s policies, procedures, plans and project initiatives.
Other Requirements
Experience with the design and development of transportation wayfinding and information design is an asset as is experience with GIS and graphic design software such as ArcView/ArcGIS and Adobe Creative Suite.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.
