Full Membership
A Full Member is a professional individual who has achieved or completed the following:
- Has previously applied for and been accepted as a Provisional Member of the Institute.
- Has a university degree from a Planning school/program which is formally recognized by the Canadian Institute of Planners/Planning Institute of BC.
- Has completed and logged in a Log Book at least two years of verified responsible professional planning experience.
- Has completed an Oral Exam interview.
- Agrees to abide by the Institute’s bylaws & Code of Professional Conduct.
- Maintains her/his skills, knowledge, and abilities in accordance with the Institute’s required Continuing Professional Development system.
OR
- Has previously applied for and been accepted as a Provisional Member of the Institute (see below), with the signed sponsorship of a Full Member in good standing of the Institute.
- Has a university degree (either in a field related to planning, or unrelated to planning).
- Has completed and logged in a Log Book at least four to six years of verified responsible professional planning experience.
- Has completed a Written Examination.
- Has completed an Oral Exam interview.
- Agrees to abide by the Institute’s bylaws & Code of Professional Conduct.
- Maintains her/his skills, knowledge, and abilities in accordance with the Institute’s required Continuing Professional Development system.
Only Full Members are entitled to use the professional designations/titles 'MCIP' and 'Registered Planner' after their name. Full Membership includes equivalent joint membership with the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP).
(Note: individuals who are not already Provisional Members in good standing of the Institute may not apply directly for Full Membership.)
IMPORTANT NOTE: As part of the Planning for the Future project PIBC, in cooperation with CIP and our affiliated professional planning associations across Canada, is in the midst of a major review and renewal of our Membership criteria, requirements and processes.
Substantial changes to the requirements for professional Membership and the process taken by membership applicants will result from this project.
